Vents

Here's a super easy way to do small vents:

Step 1: Take the car of your choice and outline the area where you want to make a vent with the poly lasso tool. Create a New Layer (cntrl+shift+N).

Step 2: Now with the Brush tool set with black, brush in an opening and a shadow on the top. Try and find a lighter highlight in the car's paint and go over the bottom of the vent to create a highlight to the vent.

Step 3: This is where you let photoshop do all the work for you. Double click on the right side of that layer in the layers menu. Use the settings I show in the next pic.
- Where the highlight mode shows "screen", you can also change this to overlay for a more blended look. You can also experiment to see what might work better for your application. Make sure the light angle is coming from the same direction as your light source.

Step 4: You can now stay on the same layer and add more vents by using the Poly Lasso tool and shading them in. The effect will automatically be added.
